Aloha is in the air.
The only airline in the world dedicated to flying people to and from a single, special place…Hawai‘i
Now in its 95th year of continuous service, Hawaiian is Hawaii’s biggest and longest-serving airline. With that honor comes an incredible amount of responsibility to the ‘aina (land), people, places and cultural traditions. The state is also the most isolated population center in the world—some 2,390 miles from the Continental U.S. and nearly 4,000 miles from Japan—making it uniquely reliant on air travel. To describe how beautiful, remarkable, and wonderfully serene the Islands are would be a nearly impossible task. And yet, our exceptionally talented in-house creative team gets the honor and privilege of doing just that each and every day, striving to connect the world with aloha. For that, I’m extremely grateful. Mahalo.
The introduction of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was such a satisfying unveiling—years in the making—because our entire team had a part in bringing the authentic Hawaiian Airlines experience to life for a new flagship aircraft. The design and branding for the first class premium cabin Leihōkū (“garland of stars”) left no detail unattended and is absolutely the best way to arrive in the Islands. Team Kōkua is our community and cultural outreach program at work and is without a doubt my favorite part of what we do. It provides ample opportunities to volunteer, roll up the proverbial sleeves and literally get our hands dirty. It also helps fund local non-profits whose missions are critical to support Native Hawaiian education, language, culture and more. The connections created and the impacts made are tangible, measurable and real. If you’re visiting the Islands, I encourage you to seek out ways to volunteer and give back. I promise it’ll be more fulfilling than you think—and I would be more than happy to join you! Community & Culture: Debbie Nakanelua-Richards, Manakō Tanaka
